In 1st and 2nd Peter, the apostle refers ten times to “grace”. By tracing the references to grace that appear throughout his letters, we begin to discover that grace is something far deeper than the Sunday School answer many Christians might offer. While it does refer to the unmerited favor given those covered by the atoning work of Jesus Christ, it spills over and flows into who we are, how we live, what we look like, and what we do.

Looking at the Greek and Hebrew words for “grace” and how they are used throughout scripture, a deepening appreciation occurs for how they correlate to our emotions, our disciplines, and our deeds... what it means to have a regenerate heart and seek the knowledge of God. Grace is not merely something we “have” in Christ, but something that grows, something that multiplies, and something we are entrusted with as stewards.

For something that is such an integral part of our identity, our worship, our fellowship and our mission, it is notably worthy of exploration and meditation. Understanding grace in its many facets equips the Christian to better bear the image of our graceful and gracious Savior.
