No matter where we are in our Christian walk, sin frustrates us all. This sin typically leads us to our own efforts, but our inability to overcome that sin of our own efforts results in frustration, guilt, and shame. Eventually, as we fall deeper and deeper into this shame at our failure, we either: repeat the cycle of effort and failure over and over, give up and identify ourselves with our sin, or possibly overcome our sin through our outward action, leading us to believe our outward righteousness justifies us.

In this lesson, we learn the difference between godly grief and worldly grief, the difference between biblical repentance and simply feeling remorse, and that the bible is not simply a book of rules, but that it reveals God’s character. We learn what it looks like to have transformed hearts, and that it is the Spirit who initiates and carries out that transformation.

Our sin is a constant reminder to us that we need a Redeemer, and should create in us humility and grateful hearts as we recognize that our only hope is in Christ. God is calling us to something deeper than simply overcoming sin, He is calling us into a deeper relationship with Him, and it is in that relationship that transformation occurs.

In this sermon, we address how our sin seems to frustrate us at every turn, and how we can overcome that, if indeed the bible spells out a way. This isn’t just “overcome your pride” or “stop looking at porn”, but a real, in-depth look at what the bible has to say about our sin and how to address it.

Pastor Jesse preaches on how we can only have right standing before God by his grace. Grace isn’t only what we are saved by but also what we continue in. Our confidence in God’s favor toward us is not predicated on our performance or good works but only because he has loved us, accepted and adopted us as his sons and daughters and given us undeserved favor through faith in Jesus Christ. Out of the abundant supply of grace that God has lavished upon us, we can now steward that grace for our brothers and sisters in the church and the world God has sent us into.
