Besides Jesus, John the Baptizer was the greatest man to ever live. We can learn from seven aspects of his greatness—including that he was a Spirit-filled evangelist who humbly prepared the way for Jesus. He avoided adolescence and thus is a great example of what it means to be a real man. Real men are creators and cultivators, not childish consumers, cowards, or complainers.

6 On September 20th 2009 Mars Hill Church began an ambitious, several year long series titled "Luke's Gospel: Investigating the Man Who Is God". A friend thought you might want to check out <a href="http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/luke/the-birth-of-john-the-baptizer">The Birth of John the Baptizer</a>. What happens when a wealthy benefactor funds a costly and lengthy investigation by an educated medical doctor and historian of the life of a man who claimed to be God? The Gospel of Luke. In the opening lines of Luke’s gospel we are told that Luke is aware of other biographies written about Jesus Christ, but that he was compelled as a historian to have personally “investigated everything carefully” (NASB) so that there would be “an orderly account” (1:1–4). For Luke to undertake his investigation, he needed to be financially freed up to spend perhaps a few years personally interviewing the eyewitnesses to the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Practically, this means that Luke personally interviewed Jesus’ mother Mary, Jesus’ brothers and sisters, any of Jesus’ disciples who were living, Jesus’ personal friends like Mary and Martha, and those who were among the crowds that were eyewitnesses to his preaching, miracles, and resurrection, along with individuals Jesus ministered to and healed. She sings a song of praise to God, and in it lists at least 17 attributes of God and echoes a multitude of Old Testament Scriptures—even though she was likely illiterate. Pastor Mark Driscoll Mary & Elizabeth Pregnant Mary walks many miles to visit pregnant Elizabeth so they can share in each other’s joy and be in community together. The baby in Elizabeth’s womb, John the Baptizer, leaps for joy when he hears Mary’s greeting, and Elizabeth prophesies that Mary is blessed. Thus, we see that a baby in the womb is indeed a baby, that children are a blessing from God, and that abortion is murder. We all, through sin, have bloody hands as murderers of Jesus, but he offers his nail-scarred hands—life for life—to save us.
